CSSF Students Participating in the
Third Annual Discovery Young Scientist Challenge

Thirty One CSSF Qualifiers to Compete Among 1,750

(July 11, 2001) - Thirty one students have qualified from the California State Science Fair and have entered the 2001 Discovery Young Scientist Challenge and will compete among 1,750 students from throughout the country. Eleven more CSSF participants have qualified through six other science fairs in California which are DYSC-ISEF affiliates. In total, 61 California students are participating in the 2001 DYSC. The DYSC is a national science competition for students in grades 5-8 created by DCI and Science Service to encourage the exploration, understanding, and communication of science among the next generation of America's youth.

The entrants represent 262 science fairs from 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The students by grade include 228 fifth graders, 380 sixth graders, 510 seventh graders, and 632 eighth graders.
